Not more than a few weeks ago, Marie King (bar manager at Don The Beachcomber and long time member of the Tiki community) was involved in a near fatal car accident on the I-10 freeway. Marie is doing much better now and is expected to make a full recovery. But she's still got a long way to go. That is why the Tiki community has banded together once again to do what they can to help out. Join the Tikiyaki Orchestra along with The Smokin' Menehunes, Slackstone, The Elminators, Glasgow Tiki Shakers, Outerwave and the Boardwalkers as they create one of the funnest events of the spring: MariePalooza. And all the money from ticket and merchandise sales goes to help Marie King make a speedy recovery. May 30th Don the Beachcomber
The Kon Tiki is one of the last remaining, operational tiki temples from American's mid-century tiki past. The interior is almost completely original from the opening day--including, what some tiki historians call, the largest collection of Mila Guanko tikis, still in situ, in the world. The large, spectacular sign in front of the iconic Tucson, AZ restaurant features two large tiki torches that once lit up the desert night with real gas flames. Over the years, the torches fell into disrepair. The Kon Tiki has spared no expense to refurbish the tiki torches and for the first time in more than 25 years, the tiki torches are going to be relit. The evening festivities will include a relighting ceremony by the renown acrobatic performance team Flam Chen, followed by a concert of great exotica and lounge by The Tikiyaki Orchestra. The evening will conclude with music by Thee Swank Bastards, all against the backdrop of the beautiful Kon Tiki. This is truly a once-in-a-lifetime event!

The Tikiyaki Orchestra is a musical experience unlike any other today. Utilizing a unique combination of sounds...smooth, mellow vibraphone, twanging, reverb-drenched surf guitar, pulsating theater organ, lilting Hawaiian steel guitar, bongos, congas, and an arsenal of exotic perucssion from around the world, all set against the sounds of the ocean and jungle. The Tikiayki Orchestra transports the audience to a place and time when Cantonese food was "exotic cuisine" and people escaped the mundane with the aid of strong, sweet rum-based cocktails served in tiki mugs with little colorful umbrellas.. i.e. Waikiki in 1955. Evoking the sprit of past masters such as Martin Denny, Arthur Lyman and Les Baxter, the Tikiyaki Orchestra performs original material from their CD "StereoExotique', written by award winning composer and band leader Jim Bacchi, as well as classic of Exotica, traditional Hawaiian, lounge, surf, spy jazz and cocktail genres.
